Become a non-smoker, instead.
You will do what you decide to do, but let me share my story.
My name is Ida. I started smoking in 1961. Although I quit a few times and tried many stop-smoking activities, I was not successful at what is, essentially, a negative activity.
Never, in all those times that I quit. did I feel that I had become a non-smoker; I was a smoker depriving myself of what I wanted. I smoked three or more packs a day since the early 1990's, and I reacted with anger and resistance at attempts to make me stop or to restrict my smoking in any way.
To those buttinskies who told me that I should quit, I would give a go-to-hell look and then ignore them. I am NOT trying to tell you to quit. I am not even trying to tell you to become a non-smoker. I am only sharing with you the steps that helped me become a non-smoker. You will probably not make a decision right now, but maybe someday some bits or pieces of my story will help you do something very hard that you really don't want to do but want to be done and over with.
Of course, I am not a physician, so you should discuss any smoking cessation plan you want to try with your doctor. My doctor loved my plan, and so did my insurance company because my plan does not require a prescription or medication.
My story begins with Step One.
